My Books Worldwide
Since I often sell my books directly into the hands of readers, without using Amazon as an intermediary, I’m able to keep detailed records of where my readers live (cue sinister laughter). Here’s a global map of all my available data, fully zoomable and accurate to individual towns (but not to streets).
Total copies of Ulterior distributed from 2002-05 was 1060 (now sold out).
Total copies of Chion distributed thus far (Jan-Sept 2007) is 274.
It tickles me to think that when I was on vacation to Olathe, Kansas (halfway around the world), one of my books happened to live just a short drive west in Lawrence.
Here at home in the UK, it’s heartening to see such a big splash of sales, and it’s fun to notice the occasional marker on some of our little offshore isles.
A map like this has no relevance for a big-name author, but for an indie like me, I receive a real boost of enthusiasm from being able to see, all at once, my words residing in so many places around the world. Self-publishing is a small-scale enterprise fraught with difficulty; this reminds me that it’s worthwhile.
If you possess one of my books, and your location is missing, please get in touch and I’ll add your marker.
